Blue and Black Copper Marans

Here's a picture of our Blue Marans hen who won Reserve Continental and Best of Variety in the Juniors Division. She's a lovely lady with a great disposition and has hatched out some beautiful chicks with our Black Copper Rooster who is carrying the blue gene. See what nice lacing she has on her feathers and a great body type.  She is out of the Siegfried/Robertson lines, and lays wonderful dark eggs from a 7-8 on the Marans egg scale.  Some of our darkest eggs come from Blues and Black Coppers.

Marans can be a challenge to breed because we are breeding according to the Standard of Perfection for both the APA approved body type and for darkest egg color we can achieve in the process. We are members of the APA, the Marans Club USA,  are a PT tested farm, and have our Texas Animal Health Commission certificate. We have bred and raised Marans since 2014. We are also a part of the NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Plan) and do ship eggs.

Black Copper Marans

Our black copper rooster is a handsome guy.  He is the from the same parentage as our black copper hen, "Copper," who won Grand Champion at the South Texas State Fair of Beaumont. Both of them are out of Siegfried/Robertson lines.  He has a great body type, beautiful color, and comes from a line that gives very dark eggs. (Egg color is very much influenced by the father.)

His pairing with the Blue lady above has given us beautiful black and blue chicks with the potential for very dark eggs and a great body type from both parents. We are continually working on improving our black and blue copper lines.

Marans make great broody mamas!

Splash Marans

Splash Marans carry the recessive gene that makes the lovely blue color possible. Splash are mostly white (like the light-colored chick above), with splashes of bluish-black color across their bodies.

When Splash are bred with a black, they produce 100% blues.  Think of it as a Punnet square where BB=Black, Bb=Blue, and bb=Splash.   BB (Black) x bb  (Splash) = Bb  (Blue)

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

Here's a nice Splash pullet of ours who won best in her variety. You can see the variegated blue feathers interspersed in the white.
