Beautiful Chickens
We chose the varieties of Black and Blue Copper Marans because of the striking color contrast of their copper necks, and the beautiful plumage of the Blue, Black, Cuckoo and Lavender Ameraucanas.
The Silkies have such funny little personalities to match their variations & fluffiness. Silkies are always a hit with children because their silky feathers are so soft that they like to hold and pet them.
Beautiful Dark Eggs
Marans lay the beautiful dark eggs you see above. Our pullets and hens give us 7-8 on the color scale at the beginning of lay, lightening as the season goes on.
We occasionally breed "Olive Eggers" (a mix of Marans and Ameraucanas) so we can have a third beautiful color of olive green.
Beautiful Blue Eggs
Ameraucanas are prized for their pretty blue-tinted eggs. Our flock contains Black, Blue, Self-blue Cuckoo, Cuckoo and pure Lavender Girls that all lay a nice blue-tinted egg almost every day.
As with most tinted egg layers, they lighten as the season goes on, but they always come back strong the next season.
Beautiful Dispositions
As a family with young children, we do not keep or breed aggressive birds. That's one reason why we love our Silkies so much!
We have also found the Amerau-canas are more docile, while the Marans are naturally more curious and friendly.
All of these make great pets or backyard birds.
